Synonyms of turtle taxa unfortunately have not yet been included on this version of "Turtles of the World". The most recent publication that is available, Wermuth and Mertens (1961, 1977), is out of date and is quite erroneous. John B. Iverson is preparing a list of synonyms for all currently recognized species, to be published in a future edition of his "Checklist with Distribution Maps of the Turtles of the World" (1986, 1992).
