Genus Pyxidea

Gray, 1863a
Keeled box turtles

Recognition
This is another monotypic batagurine genus from southeastern Asia. The only living species is Pyxidea mouhotii, the keeled box turtle. McDowell (1964), on the basis of skull structure and the lack of cloacal bursae, placed it in the genus Geoemyda, but we agree with Bramble (1974) that this is a separate monotypic genus most closely related to Cyclemys, Cuora, and Heosemys, with which it shares a common mechanism for closing the plastron.
